Act 169

Grind your own spices.

I think that in a previous life, I might have been in the spice trade. I love the smell, the colour, the feel, the history of anything spice related. In fact,  I dream of opening a spice shop some day – but I’ve got other priorities at the moment.

Having said that, you can save money by grinding your own spice. Next time you’re in the spice aisle, look at the difference in price. Plus, whole spices have a longer shelf life than ground ones. The flavour is better if you grind them and use them right away as well.

So be good to your spices. Keep them in air tight jars. Grind only before using. And enjoy all the exotic flavour of spices whose mere presence in your grocery aisle or gourmet shop speaks to the global village we live in.
